SSCC Earns American College of Surgeons Accreditation
Sutter Solano Cancer Center has earned a three-year accreditation with commendation from the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons (ACOS). ACOS approval is given to centers that have voluntarily committed to providing the highest level of quality cancer care and undergo regular evaluations and reviews of their performance.
Only one in four hospitals earn the prestigious endorsement from ACOS, and 80 percent of all newly diagnosed cancer patients are treated at accredited centers. To gain ACOS endorsement, Sutter Solano Cancer Center was subject to a rigorous evaluation process.
"It is unusual for such a new cancer center to receive commendation from the American College of Surgeons," says Janice Hoss, R.N., director of cancer services at Sutter Solano Cancer Center. "The accreditation not only validates all the hard work of our outstanding team to provide the ultimate in patient care, but also confirms for patients that the best cancer care is right here in Solano County."
Hoss says that having an ACOS approved program demonstrates Sutter Solano Cancer Center’s commitment to providing patients with high quality, comprehensive cancer care, including a multispecialty team approach to best treatment options; access to cancer-related information, education and support, and a cancer registry and data collection system to improve cancer care at the national, state and local level.
Established in 1922 by the American College of Surgeons, the Commission on Cancer is a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to improving survival rates and quality of life for cancer patients through standard-setting, prevention, research, education, and the monitoring of comprehensive, quality care. Its membership includes Fellows of the American College of Surgeons and 42 national organizations that reflect the full spectrum of cancer care.
Sutter Solano Cancer Center has developed a strong reputation for excellence in cancer care and has expanded its program to include prevention, detection, treatment and support services in one convenient location.
