For IMRT to be effective, the tumor must be precisely identified and defined within the body. Sutter Solano Cancer Center may use a combination of CT, PET, ultrasound and MRI to provide the necessary 3D anatomical information for treatment planning.

The patient will not feel anything during the IMRT procedure and may resume normal activities following each treatment. IMRT minimizes side effects normally associated with conventional methods of treatment, but may vary based on the area of the body being treated. Negative side effects can usually be minimized with medication and/or diet.

IMRT at Sutter Solano Cancer Center is an outpatient treatment administered by a highly trained team that includes a radiation oncologist, medical radiation physicist, dosimetrist, radiation therapist and radiation therapy nurse.
