Medical Oncology
Medical oncology involves the entire spectrum of cancer care, which includes both the utilization of currently available technologies and the effort to search for newer treatments and diagnostic tools.
A medical oncologist is involved with the patient during each step of the care plan, from the moment of diagnosis and throughout the course of the disease by:
- Informing each patient about cancer and the stages of its development
- Involving each patient in the treatment options available and making recommendations
- Monitoring the care and treatment of each patient, including the management of potential side effects from anti-cancer medication
- Referring patients to other medical professionals as required
- Referring patients to community resources and clinical trials
